New Atkins Diet

What is the New Atkins Diet und does it really work? Spring of 2010 saw the launch of the New Atkins Diet. Three American doctors have revampd the Atkins Diet and made it healthier and easier to stick to. The New Aktins Diet has a healthy eating plan that you can live with, rather than the old protein and fat based diet. You can now eat vegetables, fruit and some carbs, which make it healthier and more sustainable than before. It still promises that you will lose weight, up to as much as a stone in the first two weeks. All you have to do is follow the rules!


In the old Atkins Diet, many dieters binged on carbs after a while, as they got sick of their high fat/protein food.  If you could stay away from the carbs for your while life, the original Atkins Diet promised that you would stay slim forever.


The New Atkins Diet has been created to help dieters stay slim in the long term, by following your own personal plan, based on 

your own personal carb balance point - the amount (and type) of carbohydrates you can eat without gaining weight. This varies from person to person, depending on their age, metabolism, sex, hormones, medication being taken and level of physical fitness. .


If you follow the new Atkins lifestyle, it may have long term health benefits, such as lower percentage of fat in the blood, lower blood pressure, a rise in the levels of good cholesterol, and balanced blood sugar levels for diabetics. At least this is what studies claim.



On the new Atkins Diet you eat  three meals a day each containing 4 to 6oz of protein, up to three bowls of salad a day, and vegetables, starting at 2oz a day.



The protein keeps you feeling quite full protein, stopping you from craving more food and killing hunger pangs. 


You don’t have to count calories, but you have to be very specific on the amount of carbohydrates that you eat. You have to calculate each portion based on your 'net carb' value. You can increase your net carb intake daily, once you have lost most of your weight or if you only have a little to lose.



Sugar is taboo in the New Atkins Diet, so no fruit juice, soft drinks, etc. For the same reason white flour or other refined grain products are also banned. Depending on the phase, you can eat wholemeal flour products.


Another new factor in the new Atkins Diet is that exercise is now deemed as a good thing, which was never an important part of the old Atkins Diet. Most health professionals will acknowledge that exercise is an important part of weight loss and health in general.  Regular exercise aids fat burning, and so you will be able to eat more carbs.

Menu 1

Breakfast:

2 hard boiled eggs and a few fried mushrooms


Snack:

2 slices of cheese and some cucumber


Lunch:

Tuna salad and dressing


Snack:

A few slices of cold meat


Dinner:

A cheeseburger (no roll), a few fried leeks and mushrooms and a salad with dressing

Menu 2

Breakfast:

2 poached eggs and a few berries


Snack:

A carrot juice and a few seeds


Lunch:

Grilled turkey breast with salad and dressing


Snack:

Cottage cheese and a few dried dates.


Dinner:

Lamb chops, wholemeal pasta, cauliflower and salad
