The Anabolic Diet is a low carb diet, which is very popular in the bodybuilding world as it is supposed to help you lose fat without muscle mass. During the diet testosterone and the growth hormone HGH are supposed to be stimulated too. On this diet you should eat 5% carbs, 35% protein and 60% fat.
You initially follow a very low carb diet, which is supposed to kick your body into fat burning mode. During this time you may suffer from fatigue or feel dizzy, but these usually go away after 48 hours, as the body adapts t burning fat instead of carbs for energy.
You are limited to 30g or carbs a day during the first week, to support the changeover as described above. If you exercise during this week, the process will be speeded up.
Then you have times where you have to eat a lot of carbs, to give you energy to train. Many dieters eat low carb during the week and high carb at weekends. During the week: 55-60% fat, 30-35% protein and no more than 30 grams carbs per day. Dr Di Pasquale states that the fat intake should not drop below 40%.
It is best to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day and to eat something when feeling hungry. You have to eat 18 times the amount of calories of your body weight. This is adjusted later on.
Recommended food includes, chicken, fish, meat, cheese, butter, almonds, peanuts, tofu, diet pop, artificial sweeteners, low carb vegetables, fish oil, mustard, pickles, sour cream, Caesar salad dressing, sugar free jelly.
