An alkaline diet means going back to basics and eating fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and pulses, the food that our ancestors ate years ago. Salt, milk products, refined flour, meat injected with antibiotics, and readymade meals are bad for us in so many ways and is why they are excluded from this diet. If eaten in excess they upset the PH balance in the body and cause it to become more acid, which in turn can lead to various diseases.
Our blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH level between 7.35 and 7.45. The creators of the Alkaline Diet want our diet to be slightly alkaline, like the body’s PH level.
Many people and professionals believe that you have too much acid in your body if you have little energy, excess mucous, nasal congestion, a lot of colds and flu, ovarian cysts, polyps, frequent headaches or are anxious and irritable.
Of course, a lot of medical professionals confirm that eating more fruit and vegetables is good for us, but many of them do not believe that too much acid in the body can lead to chronic illness. Although, studies have shown that alkaline diets may help prevent the formation of calcium kidney stones, osteoporosis, and age-related muscle wasting.
